Deux-Montagnes
is a municipality in southwestern Quebec, Canada where the Rivière des Mille-Îles flows out of Lac des Deux-Montagnes (Lake of Two Mountains). It is the seat of the Regional County Municipality of Deux-Montagnes in the greater Montreal region.
Deux-Montagnes, the commuter rail terminus of the AMT Deux-Montagnes Line, is located in the municipality Originally known as "Saint-Eustache-sur-le-Lac" when it was founded in 1921, it changed its name to Deux-Montagnes in 1963. The name "Deux-Montagnes" itself dates to 1674 when it was given to the lake that stands in front of Deux-Montagnes, and to the seigneury which stood north of the lake. The exact origin of this name is unclear, but it is thought to refer to the two highest points of Mont Oka, or to the fact, when seen from a distance, Mont Oka to the north and Mont Rigaud to the south appear to be neighbouring the lake. |
