Eugene Levy co-stars as the patriarch of a rival family of eight children. Carmen Electra has a brief role as Levy's trophy wife. The film did not follow the storyline of the novel .

Filming in Toronto began on June 13, 2005, and was scheduled to finish on September 2, 2005 [2]. The July 2005 issue of had the first picture preview of the film. The film was released in theaters on December 21, 2005.
