) in Ribe County on the Jutland peninsula in south-west Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 382 km², and has a total population of 17,379 (2005). Its mayor is Ib Kristensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The site of its municipal council is the town of Grindsted. Neighboring municipalities are Billund, Give and Brande to the east, Aaskov to the north, Egvad and Ølgod to the west, and Helle and Holsted to the south . Grindsted has good schools and good educational possibilities, and a well-built infrastructure for cars, trains and pedestrians. It lies in the center of Denmark, being neither one of the country's biggest nor one of its smallest municipalities. The municipality's motto is "i" which means "Grindsted - We have it". By January 1, 2007 Grindsted municipality will cease to exist as the result of i ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Billund municipality, which now lies to the southeast of Grindsted municipality, to form the new Billund municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 536 km² and a total population of 25,076 (2005). |
