Ellen Taaffe Zwilich (born April 30, 1939Ellen Taaffe Zwilich is an American post-modernist composer (writing in a neo-romantic ). She was the first female composer to win the Pulitzer Prize. In 1995, she was named to the first Composer's Chair in the history of Carnegie Hall. She is a Distinguished Professor of Music at Florida State University.

Her works include the , which won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Music. More works: Celebration for Orchestra (1984), Symphonie No. 4 "The Gardens" for Chorus, Children's Chorus and Orchestra [sponsored by Michigan State University], Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra (1993), Concerto for Bass Trombone, Strings, Timpani and Cymbals (1989).
