Siegen
is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the capital of the district Siegen-Wittgenstein and place of a university. As of December 31, 2003 it has a population of 106,143.
From 1606 to 1743 Siegen was the capital of the County of Nassau. The Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens was born in Siegen in 1577. During World War II, Siegen was bombed multiple times by the Allies due to a crucial railroad that crossed through the town. |
