Plot

Jack Ferriman, a Canadian Air Force pilot, spots a mysterious vessel running adrift in the Bering Sea. As it is in international waters, it can be claimed by whoever is able to bring it to a port. To do this he recruits a team of salvagers who are purported to be the best in the business. They set out on the , an Italian luxury liner that disappeared in May 1962, and was believed to be lost at sea.

However, once the crew begins towing it back to land, they soon discover that the ship wasn't as deserted as they first thought, with the crew believing that the ship is haunted.

The surprisingly tranquil opening scene is set in the 1960s, and contains a very memorable opening sequence, involving a steel cable and a group of dancers on the front well deck of the ship.
