Home Room is a class period in secondary schools in the United States. It is often the first period of the day, and often follows the lunch break.
During Homeroom, teachers take attendance registers, may collect lunch orders, and carry out other administrative activities. Announcements may be made, correspondence distributed, and the Pledge of Allegiance said. In some schools, students are permitted to socialise or watch television news. The homeroom teacher is often considered to serve a pastoral role for their students, as well as an educational one. Non-US Alternatives Homeroom in Japanese schools is based on the US model, however it forms a greater part of students lives. In the UK, secondary students will be assigned a tutor group, which serves generally the same purpose. |
