Caviezel is adamant in expressing his Roman Catholic faith and has publicly spoken at religious venues since the release of . On March 19, 2005 he was the main speaker at the first Catholic Men's Conference in Boston. Caviezel stated that he only chose to speak at the conference because he liked Boston Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley.

His wife Kerri, also a devout Roman Catholic, is a teacher and an accomplished flautist.

They are both active in their parish in the Conejo Valley in California. Kerri supports a charity for single women with children and also volunteers with the Detention Ministry at a camp for incarcerated youth in Malibu, California.
