John Banner (born January 28, 1910 in Vienna, Austria; died January 28, 1973 in Vienna) was an Austrian actor. He was best known for his role as "Sgt. Schultz" on .
Being Jewish, Banner spent time in a concentration camp before being released out of Occupied Germany. Luckily for him, the time which he spent in the concentration camp was still in the early stages of the Nazi rule, extermination policies were not fully implemented yet. Before John Banner came to acting, he studied law for two semesters. John Banner's film credits include over 40 films and over 70 television appearances including , playing a somewhat hapless character that to some extent anticipated his Sgt. Schulz characterization. Banner passed away of an abdominal hemorrhage on his birthday in 1973. He was buried at the cemetery in Mauer in Liesing, the 23rd |
