Martin Short (born March 26, 1950Martin Short is an actor, writer, and producer best known for his comedy work, particularly on the TV programs . Short has created many memorable characters over the years, most notably Jiminy Glick, Frank the Wedding Consultant, and Ed Grimley.
He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Short was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 1994. tableFamily His father was Charles Short, an executive with Canada's largest steel company, who came to North America as a stowaway Catholic refugee from Northern Ireland at the age of 21. His mother, Olive, was concertmaster of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra; she was the first female concertmaster in North America. His cousin, Clare Short, is a member of the British Parliament. His older brother, Michael Short, is a comedy writer and a two-time Emmy winner. He married Canadian actress Nancy Dolman in 1980 after meeting her during the legendary 1972 production of in Toronto. They live in California, and Short is a U.S. naturalized citizen. They have three children: Katherine (born 1983), Oliver (born 1986) and Henry (born 1990). |
