Slobozia (Russian:Slobodzeya) is the seat of the Administrative Region of Slobozia of Transnistria, which is an unrecognized country, that has declared itself independent of Moldova. Slobozia is located at 46°44′N 29°42′E, in the South of Transnistria, South of its capital Tiraspol. It had a population of 19,000 at the census in 1989. The population of the city is mostly made up of Romanians, while Russians and Ukrainians are important minorities.
