Ciechanów
[tɕe'xanuv]) is a town in north-central Poland with 47,900 inhabitants (2002). It is situated in the Masovian Voivodship (since 1999) and was previously the capital of Ciechanow Voivodship (1975-1998). Before WWII home to a large Jewish community. During the war many Polish Jews and resistance fighters were shot by the Germans in the castle.
