is a county (judeţ) in the Southern Romania, in South-Western Wallachia region, in the South of Oltenia, with the capital city at Craiova (population: 314,437).

In 2000, it had a population of 749,019 and the population density was 101km². Over 96% of the population are Romanians, with the biggest minority being the Rromas (Gypsies) with 3% and Serbians and Bulgarians almost 1%. Geography
This county has a total area of 7,414 km². The entire area is flat, a plain with the Danube on the South forming a wide valey, and crossed by the Jiu River in the middle. Also other small rivers flow, each one forming ints small valley. There are some lakes across the county and many ponds and channel on the Danube valley. Economy
The county is mainly an agricultural one with land ideal for growing Cereals, vegetables and wines. The industry is manly located in the city of Craiova, the biggest city in South-Western Romania. The predominant industries in the county are: Heavy electrical and transport equipments - Electroputere Craiova being the biggest factory of this type in Romania.Administrative divisions
