The American prisoners of the Bataan Death March were still being held captive in a notorious Japanese POW camp based in Cabanatuan. Of the original 70,000 prisoners, only about 500 remained. They were subjected to harsh treatment by the Japanese and many were stricken with malaria. That winter, the 6th Ranger Battalion of the American Army, aided by Filipino guerillas, staged a large attack on the camp in order to rescue the remaining prisoners. Col. Henry Mucci (Bratt) and Cpt. Robert Prince (Franco) led the attack. |
