The Station Agent is a 2003 American independent film about a dwarf who moves to live in an abandoned train depot in rural Newfoundland, New Jersey to live a life of solitude. It was written and directed by Thomas McCarthy.

Plot

Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) inherits some land property with a train depot on it after his friend and also owner of the model train shop where Fin works, Henry (Paul Benjamin) dies. Fin moves out to the train depot and wishes for a life in peace. He finds himself reluctantly becoming enmeshed in the lives of his neighbors, especially Olivia (Patricia Clarkson), a forty-year-old artist who has troubles with her broken up marriage and is coping with the death of her young son, and Joe (Bobby Cannavale) a thirty-year-old latino who is working in his dad's snack truck for the summer.

Reactions

Reviews for the film were very good, and it grossed more than $5,000,000. It was also a hit at several film festivals and year end awards.[1] Among the awards the film won were:

Best First Screenplay, the John Cassavetes Award, and the Producers Award at the Independent Spirit Awards.Audience Award, Special Jury Prize, and Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
