Batman is a city on the Batman River in Kurdish dominated southeast Turkey. It is the capital of Batman Province. In 2003 the city had about 266,100 inhabitants. It is an important oil producing area. There is a railway track at Kurtalan, near this city, which runs all the way to Istanbul. There is also an airport near Batman. The name is short for the Bati Raman mountains.
